About A1 Shuttle
Kevin Thompson is a friendly local face who lives in Lincoln with a passion for driving and meeting new people!
Meet Kevin, the new owner of A1 Shuttles
Kevin brings decades of practical experience, strong local knowledge, and a genuine love of people to A1 Shuttles. Before taking on the business, he worked in the construction industry from 1974, mainly across housing and light commercial projects.
After moving to Christchurch in 2010, Kevin was involved in helping resource the city’s post-earthquake rebuild, connecting tradespeople, construction companies, training organisations and education providers to support the work ahead.
In 2023, Kevin and his partner began hosting guests through Koko’s Cabs & Accommodation in Lincoln. What started as a retirement side-hustle soon grew into a complementary group of local transport and accommodation services, including Koko’s Cabs, Koko’s Tours, Koko’s Accommodation and now A1 Shuttles.
The opportunity to take over A1 Shuttles came after airport transfer demand quickly outgrew their own vehicle. Kevin connected with Ray Thomas, the previous owner, and after plenty of conversations, stepped into the business. He is now enjoying the pace, variety and people-focused nature of shuttle work.
A1 Shuttles provides airport, train, event and school shuttle services, with Koko’s Cabs and Koko’s Accommodation offering handy support for visitors staying locally. Guests can book bed and breakfast style accommodation through kokoscabsltd.com, especially useful for visitors looking for a comfortable place to stay in Lincoln.
Outside of work, Kevin enjoys spending time with his partner and dog, cooking, keeping on top of the garden, learning about AI, and reconnecting with his musical instruments.
When he gets a spare moment locally, you might find him at Delante in Lincoln, The Good Home in Prebbleton, or grabbing something easy from The Chip Shop, Thai or The Prebbleton Bakehouse.
Kevin’s travel tips:
- Book your shuttle as soon as your flights or travel plans are confirmed, especially during busy spring and summer periods. Transfers should be prepaid, and accommodation is best booked as early as possible.
- For early morning airport transfers, be ready at your advised pickup time. Most international flights require at least two hours for check-in, and some airlines require three. Allow extra time for pickup and travel, check your itinerary carefully, and keep an eye out for flight changes.
Dennis and I just wanted to say a huge thankyou to you for your amazing service. When we contacted you for a pick-up to go to the airport at the terrible time of 4.30 am on a very chilly winters morning, we fully expected you would not be able to help. Instead you were only to happy to pick us up, arriving dead on time in your spotless van which you had really warm in advance. Our return pick up from the airport was nearly as bad, arriving just before midnight on a delayed ight. Again you were there waiting for us with a warm welcome. We are hoping you will be able to help us each time we need transport in the future.
KIND REGARDS – JENNIFER
For almost a year our younger daughter travelled with A1 Shuttle door to door from our home to Rangi Ruru. This was much more convenient than the bus and less tiring on kids as the travel time is faster. Ray is extremely organised, punctual and a highly skilled professional driver – with a great sense of humour too. We highly recommend his A1#Shuttle4U service as a fantastic way for your son or daughter to get to and from school.”
DR CHARLOTTE WESTWOOD, PREBBLETON
We have used A1 Shuttles twice both times going to the rugby at AMI in Addington. Ray was on time with our pick ups and so helpful and nothing seemed to be a problem. He was a good driver and we were able to be dropped off near the stadium. I would certainly use his shuttle again and have passed his name onto others from Lincoln.
